We will be terribly impacted by this proposed law. I have Steinway pianos for sale with ivory keys. This ivory is decades old and has nothing to do with ivory poached in Africa. Having to remove ivory keys diminishes the market value, the historic value and the sentimental value of each piano.
The problem is my clients have paid up to $10K for new keys made with pre-ban ivory key covers. Again, this ivory has been in the U.S. long before the 1990 ban on international ivory trade.
SO are these customers now criminals when they sell or gift their pianos to their children? Apparently so.
I hope this law is defeated or at least modified to show some semblance of common sense.
